The rustic Nakuru Thumb Piano Kalimba (6 Note) is an unusual type of thumb piano that comes from Kenya. Also known as a sansula, mbira, the woodwind instrument goes by names. The mbira originated in Africa and that's what makes this musical instrument interesting.
The Nakuru Thumb Piano Kalimba is handmade making it a special piece to add to your music collection, but also it is made entirely from natural materials like half of a gourd, an offset piece of timber holding the notes in place and of course the metal tines which is how the instrument is played. It has a small sound hole that helps the instrument resonate. The instrument is very rustic which adds to its authenticity but with that in mind it is not suitable for children and is a little rough around the edges. I'm going to have some fun with this instrument in the coming weeks as I explore tuning options for the 6 note nakuru kalimba.
