This lovely Kosbaar Xylophone (8 Note) consists of a solid wood frame that has a hollowed out middle to amplify the sound and over the top has 8 luxurious rosewood notes that are tuned to the western scale with notes ranging from C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C. The notes are printed onto each key. The African word Kosbaar translates to precious and relates to the use of rosewood. Between 2004 and 2014 - the popularity of the rare wood increased and as a result problems with deforestation escalated throughout African countries which eventually lead to the wood becoming protected by law.
Still, the rosewood continued to be exported illegally and as the demand increased but the supply dropped this caused the price to increase. The wood from all 300 species is very special and has now become protected worldwide with strict trade restrictions which has made traditional instruments like these rare. This Kosbaar Xylophone used to come with black plastic beaters but as part of our ongoing progress to improve our products and to reduce our impact to the environment, the plastic beaters have been swapped for solid wood mallets.
