The Thai Khlui Flute has a history dating back to the reign of King Trailokkanat (1431–1488), who officially recognized it as a Thai instrument. His decree set the standard model for traditional Thai instruments, ensuring the preservation and development of the Khlui over the centuries. Typically crafted from bamboo, although variations exist in hardwood or plastic, the Khlui has evolved through generations of modifications, resulting in three primary forms: the khlui phīang aw, khlui lip, and khlui ū, each differing in size and tonal characteristics.
