The Sheng Finger Cymbals come as two pairs of high quality pressed brass bell cymbals and can be played in many ways. To play them you will want to place a finger cymbal on your index finger and thumb on each hand and clap them together. Alternatively you can have them on your fingers and give your hand a slight shake. These cymbals produce a bright medicinal cleansing tone and as each finger cymbal has attached elastic straps which makes them fit on most fingers. The instrument is very easy to play and is best suited to the classroom environment or can be usedas a transitioning sound for a therapeutic sound bath.
These Sheng Finger Cymbals are similar to the Tibetan tingsha bells and the individual bells are the same as what you would find attached to a classic Tambourine and thus produce a jingle sound when shaken. In Turkey finger bells are known as ills, zils or zil cymbals and are typically used for performances such as belly dancing and in Egypt they are referred to as sāgāt, as these finger cymbals were produced in China they have adopted the name sheng which translates to chime.
