Some people know this percussive Entada Seed Pod Shaker as the monkey ladder whilst others claim that it comes from the liana tree in Nigeria but the truth is that the seed pod grows on the Entada phaseoloides tropical plant which is native to Queensland, Thailand, and Indonesia. Inside each section is a matchbox bean which can be used as a natural soap. Each seed pod can grow up to 1.8 metres in length and contain approximately 10-20 seeds.
For convenience, these Entada Seed Pod Shaker are cut to size containing approximately 8 seeds. The plant has to be grown in a hardiness zones 10-12. Occasionally these pods are used to display tribal aboriginal art that is painted onto each ladder vine. Two different species; E. phaseoloides and E. reedii both produce a common matchbox bean but there are more than 30 known species of Entada trees, and shrubs that grow in Africa, Asia and American tropics. This natural musical instrument produces a subtle clunking sound. This instrument does not conform to any colour or shape and so each piece will vary.
