This Croaking Frog Guiro is great fun for all ages, fairly traded percussion instrument, this carved wooden frog güiro is made from acacia wood found in northern Thailand. Run the provided stick along the ridges on its back from rear to front to make it croak, or hit it on the head to make a ‘pock’ sound. It makes it a great gift! Due to the handmade nature of these products designs may slightly vary but loveliness comes as standard.
Our large frog guiro has a deeper croaking sound and has been available on the market for over 10 years. The production of the frogs started in Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand, and to make them the rough frog shape is carved out by hand. Each one is then carefully sanded down, finally they are drilled and are product tested with a tap to ensure each one has a great sound. If it passes the test they are given a final sanding inside and are taking to a drying kiln.
The furnace is fired by leftover pieces of wood that were chipped away at the manufacturing process of the frogs. Once the frog guiro is dry it is then stained and painted. The paint is applied through various techniques involving spraying and hand painting with fine brushes for extra detailing. The final process involves quality checking each frog and packaging it to protect it and ensure you get a great quality product.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a difference in sound with different sizes?
Yes, different sizes of the frog guiro can produce variations in sound. Larger guiros generally have a deeper, richer tone, while smaller ones offer a higher-pitched sound.
How do you care for the frog guiro?
Keep the guiro away from direct sunlight and humidity to prevent damage. It should be oiled at least once a year to maintain its condition.
Which side of the stick should you use?
It's recommended to use the thicker end of the scraper when playing the guiro, although either side can be used based on personal preference. During our time in Thailand, we were told we were playing it the "wrong" way, but both sides produce great sound.
