The Best Toothpaste For Health

When I was growing up I had experienced many different types of toothpaste, and there are hundreds of toothpaste brands. I’ve tried the budget ones and the more expensive types but they all taste pretty much the same. Every year on TV you see new brands showing off their products using phrases such as “Used by dentists, A healthier mouth, and so on. These claims confuse me. Its as though they are marketing a chemical-based product as healthy which I think is wrong. People see these products in a shop, buying it every week and they don’t question it. They are told it is healthy and they believe it. Not everyone believes what they see, some question everything, and for good reason.

Why is most commercial toothpaste bad?

What makes it good? It contains so much artificialness, just take a look at the ingredients on the label: calcium pyrophosphate, propylene glycol, PEG/PPG 116/66 Copolymer, PEG-12, glycerin, PVP, flavor, sodium lauryl sulfate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, silica, hydrogen peroxide, sodium Do they sound safe? I don’t think so. Admittedly some of the ingredients used are not great for you but they do look after your teeth. Let’s take a closer look.

Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLS)

It’s only used in toothpaste is to make it foam. f people didn’t have the toxic foam in their mouth they wouldn’t feel like it was cleaning, but that is literally all it does, cause foam. Oh, and it is also an irritating surfactant, a skin irritant that is also used in shampoo. It’s the agent that causes scalp irritation, destroys your hair by frizzing it up, giving you split ends and by stinging your eyes. Now I feel clean.

Hydrogen peroxide

This lovely ingredient is also used for foam. It's responsible for causing irritation to the eyes and skin. Only a small amount is used in toothpaste production but if you did have contact with it in a higher concentration it would burn your skin!

Tetrasodium pyrophosphate

This ingredient has been used to experiment on rats for dangers, in high concentrations it gave them kidney damage, the chemical is considered moderately toxic on ingestion. We have only mentioned three ingredients so far and they are all toxic. Some of you may be reading and think, yeah maybe they do use those ingredients but we don’t swallow them, we spit them down the sink but that is only partly the truth.

My experience with toothpaste

I drink a lot of tea and as a result my teeth are stained from the tannins. In the past year I have tried several toothpastes and various brand to try and remove the stains. I tried: Oral B - 3D white, this one contains lots of chemicals and it claims to remove 80% stains, as well as strengthen and protect. I used it everyday for 1 week, cut out tea, and saw absolutely no results.

I tried Sensodyne gentle whitening which contains ‘sodium hydroxide’ which is a whitening agent, the taste in my opinion is not very pleasant, it has a toxic taste. More importantly after my one week experiment I found that my teeth again looked no different.

I set out to do a video on activated charcoal toothpaste as I had heard good things about it, as I was doing my research I found that it is not approved by the American Dental association and that dentists do not recommend it.

The reason being is that charcoal is an abrasive that supposedly can whiten your teeth, but doing so it causes enamel erosion which will make your teeth more yellow in the long term and can even cause some damage. This is not something that I want to do to my teeth or something that I would like to promote as a healthy product.

Even though I have tried many products from the leading brands, from my findings the best toothpaste on the market is still the natural organic spearmint toothpaste by Green People and I will continue to use this every day as it cleans my teeth well, has a nice taste, and does not expose me to harmful chemicals.

Absorption from the mouth

Chemicals are easily absorbed by your mouth and put into your bloodstream. So yes, it does affect you and you are not excluded from these harmful side effects. Okay, so I guess we should just keep buying this until there is a better product on the market. Wrong. There are many wonderful products on the market that are actually healthy for you and your teeth.

I have read online that people make their own using healthy ingredients like; baking powder (a cleaning agent), Coconut oil (Natural Fluoride), Mint essential oil (for freshness). However, you will need to research that further to find a safe to use recipe or here is my number one recommendation, this is the one that I use! I highly trust this company. They have the environment and health of people in mind of their high-quality products, unlike other manufacturers.
